Black Moon Visits With Mars & Venus

 Venus and Mars have not been this close to the moon since 2008 and won't be again till 2017. That is what made me venture out for a few seconds in sub -30C weather! I use back button focus on my camera so that meant I had to actually take my warm & fuzzy mitt off for 3 seconds to focus. In that little time my fingers felt the burn of the cold. 3 snaps and I was out of there - not a perfect picture but good enough if one wants to avoid frost bite!

The dogs seem to be taking winter in stride though! They are not getting much walking in these cold temperatures but they do have burst of energy rounding the backyard for a bit of fun. Got to love Kodee's yet again determined face wanting to catch Becky. Never is that going to happen! Becky is in such a relaxed loose gait with all 3 in the air. She is a natural athlete full of spunk.

The Supermoon With Maleificent

The child in me had to go see the movie "Maleificent". It is to Sleeping Beauty what Wicked is to The Wizard of Oz.



When we got home and I stepped out of the car, the Supermoon was staring right at me over the tree on my front lawn.



It may have been past midnight but who is going to pass up the opportunity to capture the largest full moon of 2014. An opportunity like this will not be back till September 2015.



I must have been really wiped at this point! I swear I can see Maleificent's pet raven Diaval sitting on a tree branch!

No matter how old I get, the child in me will always prevail. I love fairy tales and children's movies! I really enjoyed Wicked and Little Red Riding Hood modern day plot twists. Maleificent takes the lead as my favourite to date.

Super Moon Magic

So tonight's lesson was... if you opt to go to the lake, after dark, when the grass is wet from rain and the temperature is soaring... do be brilliant enough to pack the BUG SPRAY!

This was taken just as the sun was setting and the moon was rising out of the lake. I used my new *PINK* MeFOTO Tripod. Don't be fooled by the "Red" in the description - I assure you, it's hot pink! I love it because it also doubles up as a Monopod and is super light.

The ice cream on the way back home helped to sooth my bug bitten body. About 2 hours later, the clouds cleared so I took one more shot in the driveway. NO bugs there! This is when a hot pink tripod comes in handy - you can see it in the dark! 

Not looking too big here! Thank goodness technology has brought us the zoom lens!

2012's Super Moon Lacked Sizzle!

We attended our first Rally Obedience Match with Becky earlier in the day. By the time we got home we only had a few minutes to grab the camera equipment and head to the park. It was a hazy, brisk night so we had to hurry as the moon was already setting in the horizon.

Golden Sky

I like this picture and the allure of warmth from the golden light cast from the moon onto the playground. I much preferred photographing down at the lake for 2011's Super Moon and hope next time can head back to the water. Now I am off to find those WOW Super Moon photos by the Pros!
