Embrace Your Inner Fool

Every April Fool's Day I get a big smile on my face. It is a day of cherished childhood memories. My first (of many well loved) Labrador celebrated her birthday on April 1st. Cinder arrived to live with us when I was 7. From her first birthday (till her last) I made her a liverwurst cake, topped with hot dogs and candles. I also forced my family to sing her Happy Birthday. See my obsessive love of all things dog started very young. So in honour of Cinder may you enjoy an assortment of my latest Cavs Speak foolish thoughts.
[Actually this was really just a good excuse for a dog photo dump.]

The Scene:
Lying on my back to capture an upward, wide angle perspective of Becky.

The Plot:
In true Cavalier fashion, Becky calculates the best strategy to move in, take position on my chest and skillfully execute a Cavalier Hug. Better known as "smother thy person with my snout".

Summary:
Mission accomplished. No persons were harmed in this exercise. Can't say the same for the smudged lens.

I promise!! I didn't put the puppy in my bag - although the thought did occur to me! My camera was in my bag - for a very important photo shoot.

Fact 17 About Me
I have never seen a newborn puppy. I am really thrilled that the first new born puppies I got to see were also very special to me. These puppies belong to Becky's litter mate. Meet Lil' Girl; the lone female with 4 brothers. She may be the tiniest but I am betting she is first to crawl out of the litter box!

Way behind here on my photo a day - but I will catch up! Day 16 was on the weekend and we had a bit of excitement happening! A very special litter of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies that are quite dear to my heart, were born. You can count on me to be posting a few puppy photos in the future!

Sad as it is, "procrastination" is a word I am chummy with. However I am also good friends with "stubborn", so my 30 photos will be posted eventually!

Live Strong ~ Live Long

A great day visiting our Cavalier friends! I left Kodee and Becky at home as I was supposed to be sewing Cooling and Drying Coats for the dogs. Many of my friends are fellow Cavalier owners, so it wasn't long before I ventured to the yard for a bit of playtime, photography fun and a moment to steal a few nose kisses!



Audrey is such an athletic girl! She can turn on a dime in a split second to revel Zoey for the ball first.

Cavaliers are prone to easy weight gain and overweight dogs are not enjoying life. Zoey is a good friend's dog still staying trim and fit at 5.5!



As with all Spaniels, Cavaliers have a natural instinct to hunt. I wish the Robin luck Audrey is stalking!

A Very Special Genius

No one listens to me more carefully than my dogs. Most of the time I think of that as a very special bond. Then again.. hopefully there is a person or two that find my thoughts as interesting as my dogs! 

Becky has been tweaking her listening skills as we work on Rally Obedience together. It is a great  sport where owner and dog must work in unison to skillfully perform obedience exercises in a sequence. Becky intently listens to me and she also takes cues from the most subtle of body movements. Her expression says it all, she loves to please me and wags with her whole body from course start to finish. I can't help it, when she endearingly looks at me with her big, brown eyes she sometimes gets rewarded a little too often.

Focus52: Week 13 ~ Prompt "Silly"

Kodee exemplifies a first born; she is a bit pushy, must be first and wants centre stage. Today was no exception. I threw 2 balls; one for Kodee and one for Becky. Miss Selfish here wanted to ensure she was the only one in the game. It's OK, Becky was preoccupied eating up my garden... wait... HEY BECKY!

A fitting quote for this RARE weekend the Toronto Blue Jays (baseball) won the season opener game.
