Summer's Grand Finale

Just before the death of flowers,
And before they are buried in snow,
There comes a festival season When nature is all aglow.

Still savouring the last blooms of summer.

Early morning frosts are just around the corner.

My Gerber Daisy's stand alone - the butterflies have long left.

I guess to some it is just common grass but when I look through my lens all I see is rich autumn colours and striking texture.

Winter is an etching,
spring a watercolor,
summer an oil painting
and autumn a mosaic of them all.

100 Dog Strangers ~ Irish Wolfhound

20130609-135Textured_960_btdd

Thank you to Kim Klassen for her texture "Unleashed" - could it be named anything more appropriate for this photograph!

I found this dog in June at Woofstock in Toronto. If you don't know what that is, it is a street festival for humans and their dogs. 1,000's of dogs walk the streets shopping, frolick in the water fountains and share ice-cream cones with their owners. Not sure what I am talking about - here is a video I took in 2009!

I have seen about 3 Irish Wolfhounds in my life - all in the last 4 years. There is a good chance I just keep running into the same dog because they are a rare breed. There is one Irish Wolfhound always competing at the Purina Nationals during the Obedience and Rally trials.

During Woofstock many photographers have an outdoor studio set up. I just happened to be walking by and quickly took my shot using my 50mm. I really love the profile so

Whimsical Sunsets

Three things cannot be long hidden:
the sun, the moon, and the truth.

After a very lazy Labour Day weekend, we decided on a whim to jump in the car and head to my favourite beach in Port Cobourg to photograph the sunset.

For me, nothing beats a stroll on the boardwalk, taking in the view of the Breakwater Lighthouse and surrounding scenery. For the last few years, the lighthouse has been in need of a spiff up. Town council gave the go ahead for a makeover. This little paint job cost the tune of $56,500! Seems a lot don't you think?

If I am lucky and the lottery fairies find me, I think a beach front home would suit me just fine!

Venus even made an appearance! During the month of September you can view Venus about 1.5 hours after sunset in the west sky. If you wait a bit longer, you will also find Saturn above and to the left of the moon. I think it was too cloudy and maybe a bit too early in the evening because we couldn't find it.

The sun rises just behind the lighthouse so I am hoping to muster up the energy to photograph it before it gets too cold. I'm not a morning person, so it actually might be easier to just stay up and head out that way before daylight!
